Why are gas and electricity bills so high in the UK? |

The UK’s major energy suppliers have recently stated that gas bill will increase significantly between now and the end of 2008 and could be as high as 40%. UK gas prices have already risen by almost 14% in the past year compared to 10% in Germany, 12% in France and just 3% in The Netherlands. On the back of this, UK household energy suppliers have been accused of ripping off UK consumers. This is being vehemently denied by the gas and electricity suppliers who argue that they have very little influence over the high cost of energy.
